Mr. Gorbachov, Tear down this wall

Tuesday is the 20th anniversary of a major American shot in the Cold War with the Soviet Union. Speaking in Berlin, President Reagan said:
There is one sign the Soviets can make that would be unmistakable, that would advance dramatically the cause of freedom and peace. General Secretary Gorbachev, if you seek peace, if you seek prosperity for the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, if you seek liberalization: Come here to this gate! Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate! Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!
Some say it was a prediction. I say it was a shot at the Soviet leader who fenced his people in.

I had forgotten one bit of history. in 1982 President Reagan took a few steps across the line of the Iron Curtain, enraging the Soviets. Great!
